300 Days Served!

We can't believe Elder Moore has already been gone for 300 days!! He is loving every minute of his mission and is really getting lost in the Lord's work.

Power Lessons:
"We had a zone development meeting and they want us to start working with the members more, so they have this thing called power lessons. We went to try it on our ward mission leader and his family. So, the purpose of us going over there was to receive revelation as a whole for who they can share the gospel with, or leave a copy of the Book of Mormon, and other stuff as well. So we inform them about that, and then we open with a prayer, then we teach them a principle from a lesson for about 5 minutes, to create a place where the Spirit can be, then we ask the head of the household to offer a kneeling prayer, and ask a direct question such as who is there that I can give a copy of the Book of Mormon to. For the Broadbents, we decided that we wanted them to invite a friend to have a discussion in their home. So then anyways, after he closes, pause for like 30 seconds which seemed really long, but is needed for the spirit to work on them, to help them ponder and come up with a name. They came up with this name, and then we role play on how they might go about sharing the gospel. Me and Elder Jestice found it really hard to be able to not be like a missionary and pretend to be the friend. We decided the best thing the members can do is to bear their testimony of things they know to be true."

Great Companionship:

"All the missionaries say that me and Elder Jestice teach really well with each other, and that we have a great unity. We were like not bad since I am a U of U and Yankee fan and he is a BYU and Red Sox fan. We just had a good laugh."

Weather:

"The weather here is getting better. It has been a little warmer and I haven't had to use the under armor or jumpers lately, so that has been nice! But it has started to rain more and that really sucks, but it has been really nice a couple of the days and so that has been a nice reward."

Exchanges:
"I went on exchanges to this Chinese guys house. I tried to be fancy and use chopsticks but I gave up really quickly because I sucked at it, and the other 3 missionaries who were there were really good at chopsticks, and I was just like dang it, that stinks. But anyways, they had this really hot pepper there, and so there were four of them so all of us ate one, luckily mine wasn't too bad, but Elder Pass had one, and he was like about ready to die from it, and it was so funny to watch, and he was like freaking out about it, and I was laughing so hard."

Power of Prayer:
"One thing that I have really learned about on my mission is about prayer. I have really thought about what it means, and why we need to pray. I guess I have learned that a big reason why we ask for help and things that we need help with is because it shows a lot of humility on our part. Our Heavenly Father wants to help us out, but one thing that we have to remember is that He is all knowing, and so things will work out for the best when we listen to him, and when we allow things to be done his way, and don't question the way he answers our prayers. Sometimes it isn't the way we want it to be done, but his way will always be for the best. We also pray because he is our loving Heavenly Father and the only way we can communicate with him is through prayer."

Staying in Doncaster

Transfers:
"So this week was transfer week, as you all know, and I am getting the wonderful opportunity to stay in Doncaster, and serve with Elder Jestice. I'm really excited and it should be lots of fun!! We had a district meeting the other day and afterwards Elder Swain, a zone leader, turned to me and was like 'Elder Moore, it is now up to you to get things going in Doncaster, we expect better results, not better key indicators, but results.' It was really good, and I am so excited for this next transfer and the fact that I get to start with a new companion, and run the area, and I am excited about it."
"Elder Jestice, my new companion is from Pleasant Grove, Utah, and we get along really well, and we talk about sports all the time. The only problem with Elder Jestice is that he is a Red Sox, BYU, and Man U fan. We got off to a rough start when I found that out, but we are trying to work through it, and hopefully he will soon be changing his ways. He hates Chelsea because they are good, and he says that they buy all their players, and so it has been funny but he is trying to convert me to Manchester United, and so we will see what will happen and how things will go. Oh yeah, Elder Jestice is also a huge Jazz fan and loves D-Will. I tried to explain to him why Chris Paul is better, but you know how stubborn Jazz fans are.."

With all the Christmas money Brady received, he bought himself some Taz cuff links.

Hello, 2011

Starting off the New Year:

"So this last week has been a bit of an interesting one. On Thursday night, we had a meal appointment, and the food was really good, up until 2 in the morning when i was sitting over the toilet having it all come back up. Both me and Elder Peavler got food poisoning, and on Friday we both just felt worn out and tired, and the whole day just was dragging on. It was amazing though, because President Lindley called us in the morning and was asking us how we are doing, and we told him we had food poisoning, and he was like well talk to Sister Lindley. She told us to drink coke, and that helped a little bit. Then we went over to this less actives home named John. We told him we have food poisoning and so he made us eat a piece of toast and that really helped for the rest of the day. It was an awful way to spend New Years Eve, and we didn't even make it until 10."

"Knocking on doors New Years Day was really fun. People were so wasted so the nice thing was that they wouldn't slam the door in our face because of their hangovers."

Doncaster:

"Friday we had to walk every where, which is never any fun. While we were walking, we looked over and there were some ducks there. So Elder Peavler had some crackers and so we started feeding the ducks and throwing them some crackers. Then all of a sudden, we hear a horn honking, and some members of our ward pulled up, and were like 'Elders, what are you doing??' We were like uh, feeding the ducks, and then they gave us a ride to where we needed to go, and that helped out so much and made things so much easier and nicer. We had members giving us rides all day to the areas we needed to go to, and it was so nice. The Doncaster ward is so nice at helping people out and they support us so much."

The Fun Side:

"At this store called Next, I bought some taz cuff links for like 7 quid with some Christmas money, and now all I need to do is buy some double cuff link shirts so i can wear them. But the tie selection has been very disappointing right now, and the only good things that they have for us to buy is suits, but I have only bought one really nice suit from a store called Burton. It is amazing how much better suits fit in England and how much nicer they really are."

"We were at this less actives home the other day, and his son was showing me some basketball shoes he really wanted, they were some of the hyper dunk shoes, or trainers as they call shoes over here. I was like no way, if you want some really good basketball shoes, you have to go with the Jordan's, so I told him to go to footlocker and look at some shoes. His dad was like hey, are you going to be paying for those shoes cuz they aren't cheap. So then I told his son that he needs to work and save up his money so he can buy them himself, and then the dad was a lot more happy with me and it was so funny."

The Work:

"The interview with President Lindley was really good. I asked him how I could improve my door approaches, and get people to listen to me more. He told me to come up with like 4 power statements, and then don't have any in mind and wait for the spirit to tell me which door approach to use. I have been trying to do that, and it is amazing how much better people are listening and we have been finding a lot more people who are interested. And then when I was meeting with Sister Lindley she told me this saying, which I really liked. Instead of have a good day, she said 'Make Yourself a Good Day!' I really liked and appreciated that saying."

Weather:

"The weather in England this past week has been a little warmer, which is really nice. So I decided to wear my sketchers, and they have some little holes in them. The one day I decided to wear them, the weather went all crazy and it started to down pour, and my socks got soaking wet, and it didn't help as well that our appointments flogged us, so we were knocking doors, and I was just like wow, this is just my luck, and it was no fun."

Driving in England:

"I got a call from Elder Armstrong, one of the senior couples who works in the office. He told me that President Lindley wants me to start working on getting my license, and so I guess that means I need to learn how to drive a stick. He told me to start working on it as soon as possible, and some things that I need to do, but since I have still been out under a year, my American license is still good, but I just need to learn how to drive stick. So it should be an interesting experience. I am hoping to find a member to teach me, so I don't have to pay money for a teacher to teach me, but we will see what happens."

Classic Brady:

"We had an appointment with this really funny lady named Ester. She spoke like 90 words a minute and she was really hard to understand. We tried to teach her, and things weren't going the best, and it was hard to get a word in as well. But she told told Elder Peavler when he talks she just puts a wall up, and doesn't really listen, but when I spoke, the wall came down, and she would listen a little more, and for some reason she liked to call me the action man, or the faith man, and it was really funny. Afterwards, she was telling us what she thought of us, and all that stuff. She told Elder Peavler that he tries way too hard and that he tries to force it on people and that he needs to smile and have some fun with the missionary work we are doing because we are doing a great work and helping out, and he should be happy. She told me that she loves my smile, and told me she can really tell that I know these things are true when I talk, and that is when she told me I am the action man. Afterwards, Elder Peavler was really pissed off, and I was asking him why and he was all like, 'you idiot, you don't talk about it, you are only making things worse.' Then he started to walk a little quicker and went way ahead of me. So then I started to sing songs to him like We're Not Gonna Take it, but he didn't appreciate it too much. I think I should have sung like Bad Day or something, maybe that would have made him feel a lot better. "

Cheerio, 2010

First off, talking to Brady was great! He sounded so good and we were all so excited when he called! We were all shocked that he sounded English and everything! Even though he did not believe us, he totally had an accent. I was so grateful to hear that the members in Doncaster are spoiling him rotten since he only received one package in time. When we first put Brady on speaker phone for all of us to hear, Brady's nephew Peyton runs to the phone grabs it and runs off telling Brady, "Brady, miss you, love you Brady!" We were all nervous that Peyton would hang up on Brady so we had to get the phone back! Brady instructed us that there was no crying allowed during the phone call and we all stuck to our end of the bargain.. But tears were later shed because of the great example he is, how much he has truly been lost in the Lord's work, and how much he has grown in the gospel. Such an awesome experience for us to watch him grow! Now, just counting down to Mother's Day!

Doncaster:

"Me and Elder Peavler are staying together one more transfers, and are excited to stay here for Christmas."

"The members in Doncaster are so great. We ate at this families home called the Carrs and they bought us some extra thick socks to keep our feet warm and some gloves for our hands. Boy, those socks make a huge difference!"

"We are well taken care of here in Doncaster and the members are so great and I love serving here, and I hope I get to stay for a little while."

"On Boxing Day, we were treated to pancakes, bacon, and eggs, and it was so good. The family was laughing so hard because they thought it was so weird we were enjoying it so much."

Testimony of a mission:

"I have been reading through the Book of Mormon during my personal study, and I use this little study guide to go along with it and I found the most amazing verse that has just stuck with me since I read it. It is found in Alma 36:3 and it is when Alma is talking to his son Helaman, and he says half way down, "I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day." Isn't that a powerful scripture? I though it was, and I love that scripture so much because I have seen on my mission that as I trust in the Lord to lead us where to knock, things work out so much better, and things go a lot better. I really love the Book of Mormon and I don't know where we would be at without the Book of Mormon, and I don't understand how anyone honestly reads the Book of Mormon can say that it is not true, and of course they have to pray about it. Anyways, I love the Book of Mormon."

The work in Doncaster

Investigators:

"The work in Doncaster is improving, and getting a little bit better. We found this Latvian family that we are teaching right now and things with them are going alright. They belong to the catholic church, but they want to read from the Book of Mormon, and one of them seems really interested. It is hard to teach them because sometimes they don't really understand and then sometimes they will start speaking in Latvian, and we have no idea what they are saying, and so that makes it a little bit hard, and whenever they start doing that, I just start smiling and look over at Elder Peavler because I have no idea what to do, and it just sounds funny when they start speaking in Latvian."

"On fast Sunday, I decided to fast for one of our investigators named Dan. It was amazing because we were standing outside greeting everyone, and saying hi to them, and then Dan comes up and was all like, I want to get baptized, can I do it next week? Hi is so excited and he already has everything planned out."

"Yes! The baptism did go through, and it was such an amazing moment, and the spirit was so strong and you could just tell a difference in Dan, and it was so amazing because he had a lot of the youth doing stuff, and it was great. For the confirmation next week, there is a kid in our ward who just got the Melchizedek priesthood and he is going to confirm Dan a member of the church. He was really surprised when Dan asked him, and it will be a good experience for him as he prepares to go on a mission."

Weather:

"This week has been a crazy week in England. It snowed a whole bunch on Tuesday and into Wednesday and it shut down the whole city, and it was crazy. We had to end up walking everywhere and it took us like an hour just to get into town, and by they time we made it into town, our shoes were soaking wet, and so we hurried and went and bought some new SNOW BOOTS!!!!! I am so glad that Grandma Nowak and Grandma and Grandpa Moore gave me Christmas money, and I am so glad that they bought me some nice snow boots. They keep my feet really dray and they are steel toe boots and they are so flipping nice, and we got them on sale for like 20 quid. Anyways back to the story, so no buses were running, and on Wednesday we were supposed to go out to Sheffield for a meeting but nothing was running so we couldn't make it out there, and then everyone was walking so we were out talking to everyone, and we found a couple of people who seem really interested in hearing the gospel. It was amazing how much it snowed. We got like 2 feet of snow, and it was so crazy. All I wanted to do was run and play in it and make snow forts. The only thing that sucks is we have been getting a lot of snow balls thrown at us. I am starting to get sick of it and our district leaders tell us how they are having snow ball fights, and so I am going to start throwing them back, and I am going to show them how you really thrown a snowball, because they all throw really bad. This week we also had to shovel snow at our church, and here I was thinking I was getting out of that for 2 years. We had a really good ward turnout and the shoveling went by really fast. But if we didn't shovel, then they would have cancelled church. The only thing with England is that they use all these things like sign post to shovel snow, and they also use metal shovels. So half the time, the snow is getting stuck to the shovel, and I was like what the flip, and no one in England has a snow blower, and all they do is let the snow sit there, and so now everything is becoming really icy, and we have been watching a lot of people slip and fall, and I try not to laugh but sometimes it just slips out and I chuckle a little bit."

Food:

"We ate at this guy's house named John Horner. He mad us muscles, which were alright, and then this last week, we had some lamb's liver which wasn't very good, but I endured it well, and I finished eating it. Anyways, when he makes us a started, he puts his special sauce on it. Like he covered his eggs in it. All it is, is fry sauce. And when we told him that he just started laughing because he thought the name was funny, and he told us how he made it, and we were like, yep, that is how you make fry sauce. It was really funny."

The Fun Side:

"Our Christmas tree that we decorated our flat with, and got it all ready for Christmas time."

"We were helping these members of our ward take in cans of food for this thing they do called like the pampers, or something like that. But he removed a blanket and in the box there was chocolate and he was like Elder, you better stuff that in the box before the young men get to it. And i was like or before I get to it, and then he just laughed. So anyways I took the box in and put it down, and then he brought in his wife and was like Elder Moore was thinking about taking that chocolate, or something like that. And the wife was like, well when you help out the members like this, then you receive a blessing, and so they ended up giving me, and Elder Peavler, the chocolate. They are just this really old couple called the Carr's and I was just like oh thank you so much, I am so grateful for this."

"At a tea appointment, we were eating at this ladies house named Sister Kilburns, and she made this amazing cheese sauce, and don't worry, I got the recipe. She like me so much, but don't worry, I am humble about i, and we just talked, and she was all like you remind me so much of the missionary that baptized me, and I was like oh thank you, and then we laughed some more."

Doncaster

Missing Grimsby:

"The new area in Doncaster is really big, the area is so huge, and I liked the smaller area of Grimsby better. I haven't had fish and chips here yet, but I have been craving them so badly, and I want some so bad, but everyone says Grimsby is the best place to get them."

The Fun Side:

"We went to visit this less active family named the Barber's. They had this snake and it was feeding time and guess who got to feed the snake......... ME!!!!!!!!!! I was so scared at first the snake was going to bite my finger, so I used the clamps, and held the mouse really far away, and they told me to stop being a wimp and to get closer, so I slowly moved closer, and closer and then all of sudden the snake jumped up and took the mouse right from me. It was really scary but I did get a really good video of it, and we just had a good laugh."

"The flat is Doncaster is really nice, and guess what.............................we have a DRYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is going to make things so much nicer and easier and I am so excited!"

"I was joking around with the assistants, Elder Weggersen and Elder Hull, and they were like you need to come to Leeds so we can serve around you and all this other stuff. It was so much fun, and I just love joking around with everyone and having lots of fun. I think that is what I love about being a missionary, is how much fun I am having, but still working really hard at the same time, and it just makes everything fun."

Doncaster:

"Doncaster is really good, and the ward is really great and funny. They had me fill out this paper with a little bit of information on it, and I put the home address on it and told them to write you a letter saying how great of a missionary I am, and then our ward mission leader, Brother Hall, was like or maybe we should tell them how big of a waster you are. I thought it was really funny, so I laughed."

Investigators:

"Some born again Christian let us into her house and we thought it was because she was interested, but when we got in there it was just like she wanted to bible bash with us, even though it was really tempting to want to bible bash with her, we didn't do it, and we talked about Joseph Smith with her, and tried to teach her a little bit of the first discussion, and then we asked her if she was interested and she said she was, so we will have to see how things go with that matter."

Teaching from President Lindley:

"We had a specialized training, and Presidnet Lindley came and talked to us about some stuff. It was really good, and I learned a lot. He told us how he thinks we as missionaries are working really hard, but we need to work more smart, and better. Then we found out that right now, the England Leeds Mission is the highest baptizing mission in all of Europe, and that was really great to hear. But out of all the people we schedule for baptisms, only like 11% end up getting baptized and so he taught us ways on how we can improve that, and what we are going to do to make that number go up. It was really good, and I love learning new things."

Goodbye Grimsby

This last week was transfer week for Brady. He will be leaving the Grimsby 1 area and will now be serving in an area called Doncaster. He is also switching companions and his new companion will be Elder Peavler. So this post will be all about his last weeks in Grimsby.

"In this picture I am wearing a dopple. In England they wear them for the month of November for something with world war 1 & 2. And the missionaries don't get respect unless they have one, so I decided to wear one."

Weather:

"It is starting to get cold England and even though it hasn't really rained, and it looks like it would be warm because the sun is shining , but it is pretty cold. Some lady told us last night that this guy who predicts the weather said it is going to be colder than last year, and last year was the worst winter they have had in a long time. I hope he is wrong, and that it doesn't get that cold."

Investigators:

"We went and taught this part member family, and we just tried to get to know them a little bit, and then we followed the spirit with what we wanted to talk about with them. Tyra is a member, but her husband Tony isn't, so we went and had a really amazing lesson, and the spirit was so strong. Then this other member we took out with us named Keith was talking about the spirit, and how people can tell when they received an answer, and what the spirit feels like. And then Tony was like well that was weird because when Elder Moore was testifying about Christ, I had this warm relaxing feeling come over me, and I felt calm, and at peace. We then quickly told him that was the spirit, and that he just felt the spirit in his life. We then asked him to be baptized, and he said he would. So it ended on a really good note."

"Things with Emma Gould are going really well. She has been holding appointments, and we have been having really good lessons with her. It was funny, Elder Reidhead told her that one of us was most likely leaving, and so after the lesson she was going to go and give Elder Reidhead a hug, because she didn't know who was going to leave, so she went to hug him and he like jumped in the corner and put his hands out and said we don't give hugs. It was really funny, and it got us out of the situation."

Time with President Lindley:

"The interview with President Lindley went really well, and don't worry, of course I didn't get into any trouble. We had a good chat, and then I got to ask him some questions. Afterwards, we went teaching and President Lindley came with us. I am not going to lie, I was kind of nervous, but we had the most amazing lesson with an investigator. The spirit was so strong in the room, and it was amazing how I felt like I was a tool in the Lord's hand, and I was saying what He would want me to say. It was a really neat experience. We had planned to teach him about the law of chastity, but going in that just didn't feel right, so we ended up talking about prayer, since he hadn't been praying about the Book of Mormon, and then it went really good. Then President Lindley wanted to see what our flat looked like, and I was kind of scared. Luckily he said it looked really nice, and the only thing we really needed to do was vacuum it a little bit, but it was really great, and I enjoyed going teaching with President."

Bonfire Night:

"There was a holiday in England know as Bonfire Night, where they celebrate the fact that Guy Fox didn't blow up parliament or something like that. It happened a long time ago, and lots of people for Halloween, and also until November 5th carry around this puppet of Guy and say penny for the guy, I don't know why but it was kind of weird. Then it made sense once someone explained it to me. So when we had to go in and do our weekly planning, it was crazy with all the fireworks, and the bonfires, but it was also really great to see. We had a lot of fun with the glowsticks you sent on Bonfire Night."

The Fun Side:

"The O'rielly's gave me the picture on Selena Gomez and we now practice teaching on her. I figure it is good practice for the future."

"Lately I have been getting really good at stopping bikers. I got 4 of them to stop in one day, and I find it so much fun to try and stop bikers, and it amazes me when they do actually stop!"

"Me and Elder Reidhead baked the cookies. They actually turned out pretty good, and we were really excited. The O'rielly's gave us the egg we needed, so we are going to take them some of the cookies, and hopefully they will like them. It was so much fun, but it took Elder Reidhead so long to figure out how to turn on the oven, and since it was in celsius, we had to figure out the right degrees, and all that other fun stuff, but they ended up turning out really good."

"Last P-day, me and Elder Reidhead went and bought England football tops. They were on sale for 10 quid, and we were like booya and got some. Then I even splurged a little bit, and convinced Elder Reidhead as well, and ended up putting our names and numbers on the back. It was 1 quid a letter and 4 quid for the number so I really ended up spending like 19 pounds."

"I have really enjoyed my time in Grimsby, and I am really sad to be leaving. I have heard Doncaster is a nice place with nice people and I am excited to see what it is going to be like."
